The name "Yakumbo" is a tribute to my grandmother, affectionately known as Hajiya Yakumbo. Her unwavering dedication to her only child, my father, exemplified her commitment to education during a time when many in northern Nigeria were apprehensive about western schooling. Yakumbo's love and support ensured that he stayed in school, paving the way for future generations.
In our culture, "Yakumbo" loosely translates to "aunt," symbolizing the nurturing figure she was to her community. Through our nonprofit, we honor her legacy by fostering the same spirit of support and empowerment in others.
